Comments from Unrecognized Users on Digication ePortfolios

You may have received email notifications indicating that a user whose name you do not recognize commented on your ePortfolio.  Further, the message might appear in bizarre font types with hard to decipher messages and/or web links.  Do not approve these comments and do not click on the links.  This is a type of spam where web crawlers or internet bots are to trying to drive traffic to sites to sell you something, or worse, harm your computer.  Digication is working on a longer term solution to filter these spam comments.  More information will be shared as we receive it.  If you have not received any of these notices, then you can ignore the rest of this message. If you have received these comments, there are two actions that you can take to prevent posting these comments on your ePortfolios:

1) Delete these comments, do not approve them

2) Restrict comments on your ePortfolios to registered users only. Do this by selecting the ePortfolio for which you would like to restrict comments:

  • Within the ePortfolio, Select Portfolio Tools -> Select Settings
  • Scroll down to -> Allow Comments From - > Choose Registered Users (this restricts comments to only John Jay Digication users)
  • Also make sure you have selected under Show Comments -> “Do not show comments until they have been approved” and Check the Box: “Apply comment settings to existing pages of this e-Portfolio”
  • Scroll down and select Save.

If you have any other ePortfolio questions, please let us know.
