What is Adelante!?

Adelante! is a partnership between CUNY's CREAR Futuros Program and the office of Student Academic Success Programs at John Jay College.

Adelante! is a comprehensive academic program that supports the success of students interested in Latina/o issues. Through class work, service learning and service opportunities, career exploration and leadership training workshops, students will be given the knowledge, skills, and experiences that prepare them for a successful career or graduate coursework. All Adelante! students build electronic portfolios that documents their academic and professional achievements, ready to be used when you apply for special opportunities.

WHAT YOU DO AS AN ADELANTE! STUDENT:

  • In your first year, you enroll in an Adelante! Learning Community (Latin  American and Latina/o Studies 100 and English 101) and continue in English  201 with the Adelante! cohort. In your sophomore and junior  years, you will receive priority notice on General Education and Major courses that connect you with faculty and coursework while exploring Latina/o issues.
  • Attend weekly workshops, events, and trainings – all tailored to your needs and interests!
  • In addition, you will receive guidance from your own peer mentor and your own academic advisor, Sumaya Villanueva, Senior Director of Academic Advisement Center
