TaSuba was our first opportunities to deeply immerse ourselves in Tanzanian culture and even to take us a bit out of our comfort zones!

We sang songs in one of the tribal languages once used throughout the country.

Some of the lyrics to those songs could be found on the right.

We also learned some traditional African dances, that were even later incorporated into one of the plays performed for ACTion Fest!

While the dances were challenging and we all sweat a least two pounds off, it was unbelievably enjoyable and fulfilling.

There's just something about sweating for a common goal, next to people you only kinda know, that brings you closer together..

Then the next day, we learned Makonde Mask Dances!

These masks were hand made by the Makonde tribe, just for our group!

After learning about the culture and history of some of the masks, we were each able to choose a mask and learn some of the songs and dance along with some of the men of the Makonde tribe.
