Digital Rhetoric is being able to use technology to get your point across or share your thoughts all while persuading them. One example is when presenting a project you use different types of media such as music, picture and videos. You use different types of medias to obtain their attention and get them to agree. This happens every day, such as showing your parents a commercial of a new phone, computer, vacation spot, and car.

Now days, the generation that is growing is surrounded by technology and that is all they will ever know. In the article “Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants” by Marc Prensky, we find out who the digital immigrants are. Anyone who was not born around technology is considered a digital immigrant. Apparently, the “digital immigrants” are our teachers, parents, friends, and anyone who prefers the old ways. Now that option may not even be a good option. Someone who is good with technology is someone is someone who is digitally rhetoric because they can use what they know to persuade and get their point across.

Our learning styles has changed over the years and the use of technology allow us to learn faster, all while multitasking. This is the reason why some students despise school. For me, I can learn either way. Growing up technology was limited in my house because there was only one computer and four kids.
One point Prensky states is that “geography-there should be no reason that a generation can memorize over 100 Pokémon characters with all their characteristic, history and evolution but can’t learn the names, population, capitals, and relationships of all the 101 Nations in the world.” Prensky is pretty much saying that learning materials should be presented in a way that can help the growing learn more effectively through the use of technology. I believe that many will learn better if they can write on the power points using iPad or tablets, record lectures or take pictures of important information or materials that may be on a test. By doing this they can study on the go without having to carry all of their school work.

By using rhetoric characteristics such as ethos, pathos, and kairos in the digital word, people can persuade others easily or at least obtain their attention. By the use of technology your imagination can help improve and create new advance technology. These can be used to help educate others. The use of tablets and iPad help students learn differently and at their own pace. They can learn at their own pace if they have access to this materials. If this is all taken away the students cannot flourish. Think about it, if at a young age they are given iPad, portable DVD players and game to keep them calm. Who are we to take away the one thing they know more about compared to us. If they grew up with it then they can learn with it. We must leave the past and move on. Certain things from the past can be incorporated but overall we need to modernize.
