Digital storytelling can be described in many ways. The way I described digital story telling is using sound, words, images, text, and videos combined to present a story. The story could be written about anything, ranging from a silly story to personal. A typical story runs for about 2 to 10 minutes.

Digital storytelling is a form of art and writing. Instead of your normal writing with pen and paper you are able to advance in technology by using a computer and different medias to really express yourself (University of Hudson). An easy digital story can come from your memory, although it may not be perfect, it will be your own. Digital storytelling is a modern way of telling any type of stories whether it is personal, historic or silly while using technology. By telling a story this particular way, you can be able to share it millions of people if you choose with the help of social medias. Daniel Meadows defined digital stories as “short, personal multimedia tales told from the heart” (University of Hudson) The reason for this saying is because in reality, most of stories come out a person’s memories or lesson taught to them. It is pretty much just sharing a piece of your life with other in a form of art.

The use of digital storytelling has grown over the years. Although some do not use digital storytelling, it is still used by many. You can find digital storytelling in schools, libraries, businesses, and community centers that all have to resources to promote this. In certain schools you can find this use of storytelling in graduate school to even the younger childhood classrooms. This type of storytelling is not but it is still be explored in different environments. In a classroom, a digital story can have a particular subject but each student interprets differently which creates many different stories.

In today day and age, some people feel as if the younger generation is losing their writing skills. The younger generations is really not losing their writing skill but are really advancing them in different methods. In order to make a digital story, you need the writing. The writing is the most important part, without the writing, it will help with the planning and the flowing of the story (Sondra Pearl). Digital storytelling in certain environments can youths and adult escape their lives for a bit and share their stories in a way that they know works. By allowing the use of technologies in certain community center and in schools, we are allowing those who a chance to share their life with others and to also learn how to use the technology (Glynda A. Hull).

Digital rhetoric is using logos, pathos, kairos, and ethos to gain the attention of your audience by using technology. Once again technology is the key in digital rhetoric and digital storytelling. We can find digital rhetoric everywhere you look. You can find it being used in the news, your social medias and in school. You may not notice it at first but when you really look you will see it. For example, in a website about your favorite writer, you could find credible information and other aspects such as the way everything is placed and just how the website is presented is digital rhetoric. How does digital rhetoric tie in with digital story telling? Well with the uses of your creditability, the way you place your photos, the type of music you use, and the subject matter all deal with the logos, pathos, ethos and kairos. The only difference in the two is the fact that digital storytelling is a mini-movie of your story while digital rhetoric is almost like a website.
