My name is Stephanie Velasquez and I am a junior at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. I am currently majoring in Forensic Psychology but I am still undecided as to what career I would like to pursue with this degree. However, if there is one thing that I am sure of, it is that I am passionate about both criminal and social justice issues that exist around the world. So, although I may not have a clear view of what my future has in store, I do know that John Jay will help me get there.
I am a first generation college student and in about three years, I WILL be the first in my immediate family to graduate from college with a degree. Being the first person to attend college in my family has certainly had its hardships but nonetheless, it has also had an advantage that not all can relate to; it has given me an immense amount of motivation to strive for success because I know that I am experiencing something that my parents have only dreamt of.
