Being Part of the Solution

It is people like Lizzie Velasquez and Suli Breaks who use their talents to encourage people to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Velasquez is an excellent motivational speaker who uses who herself as a (literally speaking) walking-talking example of overcoming life’s hardships. She is living every day with a syndrome that dictates how much she weighs, and essentially how she physically looks. But she manages to look at the bigger picture; a trait that we can all learn from her because things are never as bad as they seem. With that said, Suli Breaks a rapper who uses his talents to shine a light on what is really wrong with society, points out that an exam does not alw

ays have the most positive influences on a person.

It is time that society progresses. It is time that we begin to redefine our terms and realize that each and every single one of us are different and unique. Suli Breaks said it best when he rapped, “We all have different abilities, thought processes, experiences, and genes so why is a class of individuals tested by the same means?” Connecting that to the point that Lizzie makes in her speech, why are we still brainwashing girls to think that beauty is a mold. We are a diverse society; beautiful comes in all shapes and sizes.

All in all, society will always have an influence on what we think of ourselves and what we see in the mirror at the end of each day. But it is up to us, as individuals, as members of society and as human being to be the change that we want to see in the world. Once we realize that one exam grade does not determine our abilities in and out of the classroom, and that it does not dictate where we are headed, and once we realize that beautiful is not a mold but rather a unique work of art – that is when society will advance for the better good.
