OUR HISTORY. OUR LEGACY. OUR DESTINY

Friday, October 10th, 6pm-10pm

Saturday, October 11th, 8am-5pm

Hosted By Nneoma and Ike of the NNe Nd Ike Show!

On October 10th -11th, 2014, hundreds of young African Students, professionals, and supporters of Africa will gather for the 4th Annual Young African Leadership symposium. Themed “Standing on the “Shoulders of Giants: Our History, Our Legacy, Our Destiny.”,  the two-day event will be held at CUNY John Jay College located at  899 10th Ave, New York, NY 10019.

This 2-day symposium will feature, for the first time, a “Business Pitching Competition” during the Opening Reception on October 10, 2014.  On October 11, 2014 participants will convene for a series of panel discussions covering varying topics that examine Africa’s past, the legacy left behind by such men as Nelson Mandela, Patrice Lumumba and Kwame Nkrumah; and what it would take to economically, socially and politically transform Africa. Panels will be hosted in partnership with African Youth Excellence, 54 Kingdoms, and Imbizo Host  Committee. There will be keynote addresses delivered by H.E Tete Antonio, Permanent Observer of the African Union to the United Nations; Sophia Bekele, Founder & Executive Director of DotConnectAfrica Trust and George Magoha, Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi.  Opening remarks will be delivered by Dr. Frank Sanchez, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at The City University of New York.

“In 2014, we aim to remind the African youth of the rich history that has become their legacy; the people who defined their present; and to rethink the meaning of the struggles and sacrifices made for the future of the continent,” said Loukman Lamany, the Chairperson of the conferece and CYAL’s Program Director. “This will be a great opportunity for those who attend to meet with our knowledgeable, incredible speakers and members of the African professional community as well as the diplomatic community.”

The event will be made possible through partnerships with The City University of New York (CUNY), CUNY USS, ProNiche Network, Go Gaga Experiential, Arik Air,  Women & Africa, AGEN-USA, and African Day Parade and Festival.
