                                      Reflective Essay Breakdown

 

Background & Foreground: Over the course of this semester you have been working on your Reflective Essay in bits and pieces. On December 15th, in your portfolio, the final draft of your Reflective Essay is due. Besides giving the composition a title that is not “Reflective Essay” you should also take the following into account:

 

  • The essay should be 3-6 pages long and also have a clear introduction, body and conclusion. 20 points

 

  • Use your descriptive writing skills. 10 Points

 

  • Introduce ideas and cite evidence from your own writing as well as your experience here at John Jay this semester that supports your analysis of your experience. 20 points

 

  • Remember to use Rhetorical Terms when you discuss your writing! 10 points

 

  • Discuss your growth or lack thereof over the course of the assignments, starting with the personal narrative, to the research proposal and annotations, to the interview and ultimately to your research draft. 20 points

 

  • Discuss some links between your experience as a writer in this class to your semester as an ISP student to your first semester here at John Jay. What were some factors that kept you motivated? Or negatively impacted your ability to engage? 20 points
