We are first year college students at John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York (CUNY). Our families, heritages, and global communities reach across the world: FROM Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador, Mexico, United States, Brasil, Peru, Chile, and Palestine… TO… the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Puerto Rico, Jordan, Italy, Dominican Republic, Colombia, China, and Guyana.
We are studying issues of Latin@s and justice because, as minorities, we need to recognize when we are being wronged, why, and how to change things. We want to apply what are learning in the real world.
We want to live in a world where
we can all be treated equally and given equal opportunities to achieve success
every voice is heard
there is no racial profiling
equality is always present
las personas se respeten y que tengan las mismas oportunidades
no one must still face discrimination
we are grateful for what we have
everyone has the right to love who they want
matriarchy is common everywhere
no one is afraid to be themselves.
As college students, we aspire to
be people of impact and influence
become the kind of people others can admire and be motivated by
learn the things we may be ignorant of
give back to our communities
do the things we love and succeed.
As writers and multimedia composers, we want our voices to
be heard and inspire those around us
stand out and help others have their voices heard
make a difference and change the world for the better.
